This was regarding the furore over Xiaxue's "visit" to Malaysia. Ok, so the furore wasn't regarding her visit but her complaints... Visit, complains, whatever...

S'pore Vs M'sia

Here is what she wrote

Malaysia has what Singapore hasn't
1)Space
2)Natural Resources(Forest,Water,Caves etc)
3)Freedom
4)Bubblegum (i don't really agree that it's relevant lol.. -Takeshi)

Malaysia has what Singapore has 1)Shopping centres 2)Shopping centres 3)More Shopping centres

Malaysia has what Singapore wants1)Casino 2) Formula 1 3) Podium Dance
4) Bubblegum(To save face, only can buy at Pharmacy with precription)

Same applies with the 4th(irrelevant)- Takeshi

Malaysian owns more cars, bigger houses, better scenary, easier life.So who is more backwards??

Well i wouldn't say backwards, perhaps a way more relaxed and enjoyable lifestyle?-Takeshi

My reasoning

As you can see malaysians are actually richer than singaporeans let me state some reasons why..
Singapore= Highly saturated market. Competition is stiff opportunities are limited. Cost of living is high. Only the best survive the rest would eventually prefer to migrate if they can afford too.
To add to the fact that Singapore is highly dependant on immigrants. Unless you knocked your head you'll realise that a huge % of the population were former immigrants. Many of you have relatives in m'sia because your grandparents or parents might've been m'sians. Based on your current birth rate it would be impossible to sustain your current economy so your country still has to rely heavily on immigrants (Which consists of? 20+% of the pop?)

So true blue singaporeans rarely get the opportunity to get richer, you'll have to compete with angmohs, highly educated indian/chinese etc.. nationals(Suprise, suprise even m'sians). If you don't believe me work in an mnc you'd notice that most of the executives are foreigners. The same goes for most companies. So your essentially rich people are foreigners (may or may not have converted to the pink ic, most of them own the blue'ish ones).

So where does that leave the true blue singaporeans? those that were born after independence day?(Those that were born in singapore before independence day hey you were once a malayan too.. well that's an arguable fact but anyway..) Hey even a huge number or artiste in mediacorp are m'sian.

So you're a true blue singaporean..
-You've to compete with foreign talent.
-Compete with your own people in this dog eat dog, cat eat cat world...
-limited space and opportunities where does that leave you?

Greener pastures?? Look at the number of people migrating each year..

Even most of singapore's economy is highly dependant on it's neighbours. Most of the successful companies in singapore derive most of their income overseas.
Can you live up to the challenge and succeed? Or will you run away searching for easier greener pastures...?

Malaysia= Developing country with bountiful amounts of resources(oil, land, livestock, agriculture produce etc..)

If you noticed it was during the 70's-80's (I doubt you could've noticed lol you prob weren't even born) It was the "explosive" growth period. Opportunities were abundant.. Did you know that skilled workers could earn 2k per month in the 80's? Yes about the same salary a skilled worker would take back now...

How do you define rich? By the amount of potential. Would you tap a mine that is almost dry requires a whole lot more effort to mine or one which is bountiful?

In m'sia it's anyone can do it land, look at the amount of mlm's that've sprung up the countless number of millionaires made through mlm(not pyramid) The countless of millionaires who used those resources to their advantage?

Yes, S'pore is safe (one of the safest countries in the world). Has one of the most efficient governments in the world(All thanks to lee kuan yew. No matter how much you complain about the lee dynasty etc.. realise that without lky there would be no s'pore.. Imagine if he was the pm of m'sia? And you had what's his name?? lol as pm of singapore? 99% of the pop would be malays lol.. all with special bumiputra status )

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So what's the difference?? Well i'm lazy so i'll post my comment on her blog lol :P

I've to agree with shannon.. I've actually typed out the explanation but i don't want to clog out a blog which has already been filled with 250+ comments lol..

Anyway does it matter? Don't you realise we're brothers and sisters after all? All malays in s'pore can trace their ancestral lineage back to m'sia.. Most chinese here can trace some form of ancestral lineage back to m'sia. You don't have to look back past a 1000 yrs just look back with the past 100 years and you'll notice your roots tracing up..

Before s'pore independance we were all malaysians (or was it malayans?)...

If you ask me the only difference between s'poreans and m'sians? -The two different governments-Lee kuan yew and the dozens of m'sian pm's(well maybe not dozens lol.)

We grew up in different environments.. A singaporean who grew up in m'sia would act like m'sians do and a m'sian who grew up in s'pore would act like a s'poreans do.. The difference? Prata and roti canai, essentially the same thing but spelled and pronounced differently =)

So peace out guys and gals go hug each other now you may never know it's your long distant cousin whom you just cursed =P...

Well as you can see it's the enviroment we grew up in perhaps an american who grew up in s'pore or m'sia might not essentially have those attributes but realise that we do!! What difference are you talking about?? I fail to see all those hyped debates consisting of thin air. Why can't we all just hug each other?? Lol :P I know alot of you want to hug xiaxue but than she'll scream molest(I'm just kidding if you ever read this =X , :P)

Well i guess me wishing for peace and understanding between both sides is like wanting world peace (i hope not =( ) But alas a man can hope can't he? We were once one country after all..

Oh yeah i forgot to add m'sia consists mostly of malays and S'pore mostly of chinese. So why do the S'porean malays look down on m'sian malays and S'porean chinese(I'm ashamed) look down on their m'sian chinese?

Imagine this, M'sia is the elder brother, S'pore the younger brother.. Over the long run the younger brother gets richer . His sons start to look down on Malaysia's sons and in the long run there is a feud..

This phrase comes to mind. " Blood is thicker than water" I believe in times of unstability like these with the tsunami, terrorist attack etc etc.. It should give us all the more reason to band together we're not so different after all! We like the same food heck we make the same food(i think?) So if we're what we eat and we've the same bloodlines that makes us the same damn pariahs(no offense intended, honestly =P *woof*)

So let us all shake our tails together and bark along to the "we're family" song. *Woof woof woof*

*Woof out* =)
